Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment that was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to help heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that come with traumatic memories.  This page contains information about EMDR along with tools I have created to use in the treatment process.

This website provides a history and overview of what EMDR is along with finding EMDR trained clinicians and training opportunities.

1. Client History

Session Notes

Determine the:

Holding original target with positive cognition and increasing VOC to 7.

Reminders:

Once the channel has been processed, use this to help install the new positive cognition and help deal with future trigger

Brief Overview presentation of the EMDR process in therapy.

This is an overview for trained clinicians to see the overall process and treat acute trauma as well as abreactions.

2. Preparation

This is the script I use.  I print it to be facing the Session Notes so I have the full script right next to my notes.

Holding original target with PC and determining any tension or tightness in the body from head to toes.

Recheck SUD level of original target

  • Has target resolved?

  • All associated material addressed?

  • All targets reprocessed?
